Shock, the girl who is fascinated with what makes us human is also really into tradition! In high school I had the privilege of learning about all the main religions of the world, along with the minority religions that often go unnoticed. The entire time I struggled to justify any one religion as being better or more correct than any other. The common threads through them all were building community, striving to be the best version of yourself, and keeping traditions across generations. It really just seemed to me that different cultures had different religions based on stories passed down by their ancestors.

What intrigues me is that human spirituality was once universally tied to the mythological traditions of a specific people, but with the spread of monotheistic religions that claim to be the only option, the foundation has shifted. Mythology that was passed down for generations has been dismissed as mere fantasy, with only certain religious texts representing the "one truth". As someone who has left the mainstream religious practices I was raised in behind, I have yearned for authentic spiritual connection. I am now in the process of developing my own rituals and traditions that connect me to my ancestors and to the cycle of nature. Because what is more human than looking at the lessons learned by those before you to forge a better life?

Our race has only come so far because of our ability to form communities that can connect on more than just the material plane. In a modern world that is ruled by logic and science, the unexplained is dismissed and deemed as unimportant. While there is value in what can be objectively proven, we must not lose sight of the human imagination and the possibilities that are yet to be discovered. Join me in exploring alternative ways to seek spiritual growth.
