Algiz ᛉ

One aspect of my spiritual practice involves Germanic, or Norse, paganism. A guide for focusing my energies is meditating on the meaning of different Norse runes. To start the year, I've selected ᛉ (Algiz), the rune representing protection. The timing couldn't be more perfect since my state is experiencing freezing temperatures it isn't accustomed to.

As we begin the third week of 2024, ᛉ cleanses negative energies lingering from 2023 to clear the path for spiritual connection and growth throughout the year. For me, last year was filled with beauty, but also some challenging times. I began the new year feeling drained and unprepared. This past week, I have felt the protection of ᛉ revive my inner strength. It has reminded me that I am resilient and can find prosperity, as long as I have the courage to keep trying. I am looking forward to having emotional support from within for whatever may come this year, trusting my intuition.

ᛉ once meant "elk," but with the evolution of language it became the Germanic "z". Such a powerful symbol of protection, life, and health, and it is hiding in our own Latin alphabet. It is fascinating to me how so much meaning can hide within a single letter or symbol. Items with the protection rune were once gifts for newly weds or house-warming. Find ways to incorporate the supportive properties of ᛉ in your new beginnings, or at any time you need protection from negatives forces. Feel supported in your own decisions and efforts to grow.
